Posey a doer, not talker

October 18, 2008

I would like to respond to your editorial about Bill Posey, a candidate for Congress, District 15.

During our primary campaign, I got to know Posey as an adversary—an opponent whom I was determined to outwit on the issues important to the voters, and I was always looking to expose some other weaknesses that might have improved my chances of winning.

However, as the race progressed, I got to know Posey well, and it seems that we agree on many issues.

Just this week we discussed plans to help lessen our carbon footprint through the use of solar-energy production and by wooing manufacturing companies to our great state.

Your comment that Posey “lacks the curiosity and openness needed to navigate and solve issues at the federal level” is far from the truth. I have learned Posey’s style is more seasoned than mine, or most candidates. He is a doer, not a talker. I have seen his subtle approach to problem-solving and it gets results. I expect no less in Washington.

I think that after serving in the state Senate and House of Representatives, he has much more experience in knowing the needs of Floridians than does Steve Blythe, who I would see without reservation for a medical problem.

ALAN BERGMAN
Former Republican candidate 15th Congressional District
