Posey Statement on McCain’s Space Exploration Policy Meeting

Melbourne, FL - State Senator Bill Posey, candidate for Florida’s 15th Congressional District, released the following statement at the conclusion of presidential candidate John McCain’s Space Exploration Policy meeting with local government and space leaders:

“I am so glad that Senator McCain has taken the time to meet with local government and aerospace leaders, including those of us involved with Space Florida.  We discussed what we have been doing here in Florida, and what he can do as President, regarding the transition from the space shuttle to the Constellation program and keeping the United States at the forefront of the growing commercial space industry.”

“I am very impressed with the tremendous grasp Senator McCain has on our space program and his strong desire to make the transition from the shuttle program to the Constellation program as seamless as humanly possible.”

Over the past decade, Senator Posey has served on The Florida Space Authority, Spaceport Florida, and now Space Florida.  He has sponsored numerous space related bills including 2008’s Space Act (SB 2426), which enabled the Florida legislature to appropriate $14.5 million for commercial launch complex infrastructure upgrades, and Informed Consent (SB 2438), which limits liability for commercial human space flight operations.  Senator Posey is a candidate to represent Florida’s 15th Congressional District, replacing the retiring Dave Weldon.
