Bill Posey Wins Republican Primary

Melbourne, FL – State Senator Bill Posey won Tuesday’s Republican primary election to represent Florida’s 15th Congressional District.  Posey received 77% of the vote, beating out Alan Bergman (14%) and Kevin Lehoullier (9%).  He will face Democratic primary winner Stephen Blythe and No Party Affiliate candidates Frank Zilaitis and Trevor Lowing in November’s general election.

“I am humbled by the amount of support the Republican voters of District 15 have shown me,” said Senator Posey.  “I’ve worked very hard to earn the respect of my constituents and colleagues over the last 26 years in the local and state levels of government.  I vow to work just as hard, if not harder, for my constituents if elected in November.”

“As we look now toward the General Election, I am confident that my record of honorable service, my reputation for being fair and bipartisan, and my commitment to real government accountability will resonate with the voters in the 15th district – regardless of party.”

Posey continued, “Washington is a mess.  They are not only out of touch, but some people would agree that they think they are untouchable.  I’m running for Congress because I believe Washington sorely needs the same kind of reform and accountability that I have brought to the State of Florida.”

Senator Posey and the other remaining candidates are seeking to fill the 15th Congressional seat left open by the retiring Dave Weldon.  The general election will take place on November 4th, 2008.
