Bill Posey: Create jobs, restrain Washington
Jan 9, 2011
Americans’ top priority is getting our economy going and creating jobs. Sadly, over the past several years, Washington gave lip service to job-creation while burdening employers with thousands of costly new job-killing mandates.
Washington issued 4,000 regulations last year. Two hundred of these have significant economic impacts.
Government regulations cost the average small business $7,600 per employee annually and, as the generators of nearly 70 percent of all new jobs, this burden has stopped job creation.
A good example is last year’s health care bill with its costly mandates, higher taxes on employers and outlays that far exceed original estimates.
I support repealing this law because of the uncertainty it is creating within our economy.
We need health care reform, but it must be done in an open and transparent process.
The good news is we have enacted reforms that will bring transparency and accountability to Congress.
We must end the backroom deals and failed Washington-driven policies like the $1 trillion stimulus that fell far short of the millions of jobs promised.
We must also stop the administration from enacting a national energy tax that will lead to further job losses.
Washington has hampered job creation and economic growth through excessive spending and costly regulations, and I am working to put an end to that so Americans can get back to work.
